Smurfit Kappa —
’Safety for Life’
Art Direction, Campaign Video Direction
Client: Smurfit Kappa Group
2018
In 2018, after several years of working closely with Smurfit Kappa, I was tasked with the role of creative lead on a global health and safety campaign aimed at factory employees across 36 countries.
The project spanned a year, from initial pitch and ideation to final delivery of video and print assets.
As project director and chief point-of-contact, my role involved assembling and leading a team of designers, videographers, sound engineers, photographers, editors and casting agents across six countries and two continents.
Creative tasks included:
The development of an overarching concept (“the moments we cherish are the moments we live for”)
Creation of a unifying campaign title (Safety For Life)
Creation of storyboard and concept visual, followed by production of a global campaign video
Photoshoots and graphic design treatments for a variety of large scale Safety For Life billboards
Design of uniforms, booklets and informational safety posters.
Jeag - ‘The Breath’
Art Direction, Illustration, Motion Graphics
Client: Tonic Recordings
2020
Animated music video and live concert visual for ‘The Breath’ by Jeag. I worked closely with the artist on this one, focusing intently in on the primal rhythmic elements of the track. Inspiration was drawn from Pagan symbolism, tarot cards and tribal tattoo art.
The Abbey Theatre –
’110 Years’
Art Direction
Client: The Abbey Theatre
2014
Zero-G partnered with the Abbey Theatre to create a number of installations for a significant milestone; their 110-year anniversary.
Our clients at The Abbey Theatre wished to illustrate the building’s connection to social, political & cultural events since 1904. A short video was produced on a single morning in Dublin City. Theatre actors and ordinary people of Dublin were asked to recite a passage from Sean O’Casey’s Juno and The Paycock, in an effort to pay tribute not only to the value of theatre, but to the people who make up the fabric of Dublin City.
The result was displayed online and at an interactive exhibition within the theatre itself.
Smurfit Kappa —Animations
Illustration, Storyboarding, Motion Graphics
Client: Smurfit Kappa Group
2014 - 2019
While working at Zero-G, I was responsible for the creation of multiple animated communications for Smurfit Kappa, the world’s leading paper and packaging company.
Such communications were circulated amongst the entirety of Smurfit Kappa (over 40,000 employees in 36 countries). It was important that these animated messages be fun, engaging and easy for a global audience to understand.
We created a signature illustration style and colour palette. As the in-house motion designer, I was tasked with storyboarding and animating a variety of relationships and scenarios. Characters, symbols, gestures and playful visual metaphors were developed to help simplify complex processes within the company.

‘In Pursuit Of Silence’
Art Direction, Cinematography, Motion Graphics, Sound Design
Client: International Society of Typographic Designers
2012
"Try as we can to make silence, we cannot."
— John Cage
A short film inspired by the John Cage’s 4’33” ; a radical work of experimental composition which brought environmental and incidental sound to the forefront of the composition.
For the soundtrack I recorded and layered many of the ambient/environmental sounds within my own home. The ominous short film investigates the myth of absolute silence, and takes tonal inspiration from the 1920s Dada and Surrealist films.
’Now You Has Jazz’
Art Direction, Motion Graphics
Personal Project
2014
A short, typography-based animation set to the delectable sounds of Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong.
IADT Vis Comm Graduate Project —
‘Better Farms’
Final Year Design, Branding & Packaging Project
2012
Scientists are currently using animal stem cells to create strips of 'cultured' meat. Their aim is to soon develop the world's first lab-grown hamburger; one that looks and tastes exactly like the meat we're used to. This new food could become an extremely worthwhile alternative to conventional meat, with the potential to benefit our environment, our health and the welfare of animals.
Better Farms is an attempt to brand and market cultured meat; to eliminate the “yuck” factor and encourage ethical meat-lovers to embrace the better burger!
